Patio

Just looking at this patio makes me feel calm. Sitting there on a lovely evening as the sun goes down with a nice glass of wine. Great.
The columns help to keep back the heat of the sun. The flora brings the garden closer to the house and the tiles help to keep the area cool and clean.
One thing to note: Please avoid using plastic plant pots. They don't add anything positive to the ambience.

House

Unfortunately, some architects have been slammed for creating unusual buildings. Here is one which seems to give a nod to the past whilst stepping into the future. Square, angular and making a big statement. As this is a new site I'm trying to imagine it with the landscaping completed. Wouldn't you like to live in a house like this?

Bed Linen

I am not one for frills and loud, garish patterns on bed linen. A bedroom should be a place where there is harmony and an air of calm. This set from Crate and Barrel manages to be artfully subtle yet make a statement which wouldn't clash in most bedrooms. A few strategically placed flowers in a vase, clean lines and a lack of clutter should do the trick also.
Simple is best.

Candles

If you are seeking a candle which creates a delicious smell and looks extremely easy on the eye then you could do no better than this. This scent is one of my favourites but there are many others to try. A great way to relax after a hard day of work with soothing music and soft flickering candle light. I even light one whilst having a long soak in the bath - lights off, course. You may want to put it on your wishlist.

Rocking Chair

Looking for a modern rocking-chair? Then look no further than this rocking-chair by Finnish designer Eero Aarnio.

At $3,965 it is not cheap but then you wouldn't expect anything less for a chair so beautifully crafted. An antique of tomorrow - most definitely.

Bag

Great shopper bag which is eco-friendly and has a great price. From reuseablebags.com at $7.95

Kitchen

A well-planned kitchen can make all the difference to a home. Not everyone can afford to install a kitchen like this but elements from it can be taken to uplift your current kitchen, if necessary. The emphasis here has been on maximising light by the lavish use of white throughout with varying tones of brown to ground the scheme. The floor reflects the natural light therefore adding to the whole ambience. A variation on the stools can be bought from most major stores (Ikea, Target, etc.). Updating kitchen units could mean just adding a lick of paint and new handles. Voila!

Lounge

Echoes of a bygone era, beautifully styled with great elements and echoes of roundness on the lamp and the trimmings on the cushions. The backdrop is arty and fun without drowning the area.
One teeny snag: trailing lamp wires leave me slightly chilled - try to avoid where possible.

Cushion

As part of a set or on its own this cushion oozes charm. For decor that calmly speaks rather than screams this can fit into any bedroom or living room with ease.
Crate and Barrel: Sale Price: $19.99 whilst stocks last.

Outdoor Kitchen

I adore this outside 'bush' kitchen for its simplicity, beauty and practicality. Imagine you have a special place at the end of the garden where you can have a barbeque, cook under the stars and make music with those you love and care about. No worries if you drop a crumb and everything can be left outdoors, as is. Ensure you have a water supply nearby and you are away.
Many evenings of sheer fun. Enjoy!

Door

The primary colours, the not-so-neat painting, the white/grey background - all add to the beauty of this door way. Made me stop and think...mmm!
Simple.

Unusual. Interesting. Look closely. Click image to enlarge in new window.

Lounge

I'm not sure if I would actually like to live in this environment but it still doesn't take away from it's beauty. Simple and, yes that word, clean! Personally I would prefer a tad more colour, miss the stripey grey ceilings and cushion overkill, please!

Still it provides a base to work from. Personalising and making this space cosy would be a no-brainer and wouldn't cost much either.

Bathroom

I enjoy bathing in a clean, fresh, bright environment and the clean fresh lines of this sink and the nod to tradition in the sink furnishings add just the right balance. Almost reminds one of a butler's sink, modern-style. Who wouldn't want to brush their teeth right here each morning?

Great Designs - The Journey

I love design. I enjoy, expecially, house, home and garden designs. Architects are undervalued.

I have collected together images of beautiful homes. The purpose here is to admire and maybe add a bit here and there to make your home home to your own style. These ideas are for inspiration. Journey with me.
